I delete the statement for IE "To disable the cache completely, move the slider control so that the space assigned to the cached object is 0 KB." because the statement is wrong, it is not possible to move the slider that far, just down to 1 MB. I'm looking for a way to disable it completely but can not find anything. 71.112.224.112 02:00, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Command-Shift-R in Safari

Can someone verify that Command-Shift-R is still the recommended way to do something in Safari? I just asked for not doing anything for me. Command-R performs a regular page reload, but Command-Shift-R does not do anything. The safaris just sit there as if I did not press a button at all. So I'm wondering if anything has changed in the latest Safari version (I'm running 2.0.4 (419.3), BTW Adavidw 02:31, July 22, 2006 (UTC)

Hm. The information was added some time ago by Kevin Mulligan; maybe he just think that's how to do it, but it's actually wrong (i will not be surprised; many people seem to get IE and Moz wrong). I can not test it myself, because I do not have a Mac. Can anyone explain this? Does Safari have internal help that can confirm or disprove it? - IMSoP 22:38, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

IE: Control is not Shift

I changed the procedure to bypass the cache in IE from shift-to-reset switching after it was confirmed by the experiment that this was actually working. - Mark Hayes, & lt; email removed for security/spam & gt;

Thank you. I hope someone thinks they are helping to change it in another way, but Control is in fact true. One of the main reasons for having this page is how many people think they know the shortcut for a particular browser, but it's wrong... - IMSoP 22:38, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Remove cache scripts using user scripts and external apps

I recently performed a user script, which can instruct external apps to remove script files from the browser cache. (documentation) I have an implementation of such external apps, which should work well with all apps that use the Win32 Internet API. Shinobu 06:34, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Effects

Hi. If the cache is cleared, will it remove all TIF (temporary internet files), and does it cause the cookies to be deleted, and will it prevent login to the website, such as wikipedia? thanks. Plug ricane 00 1 (Talk Contribs Ubx) 22:53, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

For the second question, cookies are separate from cache in every browser I know. Clearing the cache will not affect the remembered login that uses cookies.
Which browser calls them TIF? Depending on the TIF definition, clearing the cache may not get all the TIFs. For example: if clicking on a ZIP website file causes the browser to download ZIP to the temp directory (and start the Zip program to view it) the browser does not manage the file. Presumably the normal operating system mechanism to clean up temp files applies instead. --EncMstr 23:06, March 5, 2007 (UTC)

Print from cache

Hi. Is there a way to do a reversal for printing, that is, to prevent pages from being updated to print? When printing, I want to print what I see, not what might have changed on the server. All browsers I use (Netscape, IE, Mozilla, Seamonkey, Opera), seem to refresh the page in preparation for printing. That's very annoying! thanks.

Maybe by setting browser to "offline", it will not attempt to refresh. But can it print it? I do not know. --EncMstr 02:08, March 8, 2007 (UTC)

Contradiction?

On the Special: Preferences page, it says:

Note: After saving, you must skip your browser's cache to see the changes. Firefox/Mozilla/Safari: hold down the Shift key while clicking Reload (or press Ctrl-Shift-R)

.. but that's against what Wikipedia: Bypass your cache say (ie use Control F5). Which is true? Callum85 02:38, March 23, 2007 (UTC)

Both Ctrl-F5 and Ctrl-Shift-R work with SeaMonkey and FireFox. --EncMstr 17:35, March 23, 2007 (UTC)

Clear URL

"Sticking your own cache may not be enough if the updated content that is not displayed correctly is contained in the template or other transcluded pages. You may need to clear the old page server cache for new material to be seen.

The server can be instructed to refresh the page content cache with the action = purge URL parameter. Add this to the end of the URL, or in place of action = edit or action = history. "

That's exactly what I want to do, but I do not understand how. Do I have to replace "parameters" with some sort of number. Should be more like action = URL 2354452 or something? or there may be a problem due to the fact that the webbrowser game I'm trying for is over with things like action = report, action = headquarters, action = inbox. - No previous signed comments added by 210.246.38.195 (talk) 11:30, October 23, 2007 (UTC)

Opera Behavior

I'm pretty sure that Opera always passes the cache when page reloads are requested, rather than never as implied in this article. Kiyura (talk) 02:40, March 18, 2008 (UTC)

A.F.A.I.K. this can all be set by Reference - & gt; Advanced - & gt; History - & gt; Check Documentation - & gt; option "Always" (Default is "5 Minutes"). Image has a separate time option.

I think "document checking" in this option applies only to documents that have the "Expired" http header expired. So it's up to the server to determine the header.
Pressing F5 will reload the current page from the server (bypassing the cache), and any images referenced by the img tag. But sometimes (depending on the header being sent) is negligent to bypass the cache for the css/js file (and by extension, whatever bg image is defined in the external css).
Tips for every Opera user who appreciates their cache, you can force to reload individual css and js files by clicking on it in the "Info" panel on the left of the browser; no need to use drastic caching drain. - lucideer - Unsigned comments were added by Lucideer (talk o contribs) 23:14, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

IE8 request

I request this to be added to the "Internet Explorer" post, to completely clear the cache:

Internet Explorer 8 Â Â Â Â Click "Security", click "Clear Browsing History", guarantee "Temporary Internet Files" is checked, then click "Delete" Â Â Â Â Â Â or Â Â Â Â Press CTRL SHIFT DEL, make sure "Temporary Internet Files" is checked, then click "Delete".98.24.203.154 (talk) 22:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Google Chrome

I think if you hold CTRL and click refresh it passes the page's cache. If this can be confirmed, then I think it should be added. --Wanders1 (talk) 00:39, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
