Nexus 9 (codenamed Volantis or Flounder ) is a tablet computer developed jointly by Google and HTC running the Android operating system. This is the fourth tablet in the Google Nexus series, the consumer consumer Android family marketed by Google and built by OEM partners. This device is available in two storage sizes, 16Ã,Ã GB for US $ 399 and 32Ã,Ã GB for US $ 479. Along with Nexus 6 phones and Nexus Player digital media devices, Nexus 9 launches with 5.0 Lollipop, which offers several new features, modified visual appearance, and complete replacement of Dalvik virtual machines with ART. Google has included an additional step to "Enable OEMs unlock" before users can unlock the Nexus 9 bootloader.

Release
Nexus 9 was announced on October 15, 2014, with pre-orders available on October 17 and released on November 3, 2014. The 4G LTE version was released in the US on December 12, 2014.

Hardware
The Nexus 9 tablet has an 8.9 inch IPS LCD screen with 1536x2048 resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It runs NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor and has 2 GB of RAM.
Software
Nexus 9 originally featured Android 5.0 Lollipop.
In December 2014, Android 5.0.1 Lollipop was released for Nexus 9. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop was released for the device a few months later, in May 2015. Later that month, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop was released for Nexus 9 as well.
Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Nexus 9 in October 2015. In December 2015, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow was released for Nexus 9, among other devices.
On August 22, 2016, Google released Android 7.0 Nougat update for Nexus 9, as well as several other devices. In January 2017, Google announced that Nexus 9, along with Nexus 6, will not receive the Nougat 7.1.2 update, making it the last major 7.1.1 software update from Google itself.
