Google Offers are services that offer discounts and coupons. Initially, it was a website deal similar to Groupon, but has since changed focus. Instead of a small number of prepaid offers, it offers many smaller discounts. It also integrates with Google Maps and Google Wallet for mobile bidding. In 2014, Google announces it will shut down the service.

History

In 2011, Google began dropping hints into the Bidding market. Nate Tyler, a Google spokesperson, stated that the company "communicates with small businesses to solicit their support and participation in the prepaid offer/voucher program test." This initiative is part of Google's ongoing effort to create new products... connecting businesses with customers in a new way. "Users receive e-mails with local deals that day. They then have the opportunity to buy the deal within a certain time limit (usually 24 hours). Unlike Groupon, the offer on Google Offers is applicable regardless of how many people receive it. Google Offers is supported by Google Checkout and integrated with Google Wallet. It will also include Facebook, Twitter, Google Reader, Google Buzz and email sharing options. Google Offers progress information leaked after Google failed attempts to buy Groupon for US $ 6 billion in December 2010.

On April 21, 2011, via the Google Places Facebook page, it was announced that "BETA Offers are coming", and provided a link to the registration page listing some selected cities, with the first beta city being Portland, Oregon.

On May 26, 2011, the service was officially launched; the first offer is on June 1, for Floyd's Coffee Shop in Portland. During the first month, the most popular deal was $ 20 worth of $ 20 Powell's Books merchandise: "5,000 Powell vouchers were sold out in a matter of hours." The transaction price turns out to be the average offer price of Google Offers for that month.

On July 12, 2011, the service expanded to New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.

On July 4, 2012, the Google Offers Chrome extension launches. This extension has been "retired".

On March 6, 2013, an offer extension on AdWords was launched, allowing companies to distribute promotions through their AdWords campaigns. This offer can be found when a user searches for a business, brand, product, or service. They save the offer to their Google Account from Search ads and then redeem in stores or online.

In March 2014, Google announced that it would shut down the service.
