History
Created by Xavier Tassin, launched in October 2010. Originally built in Google Earth plug-in as GEFS-Online (Google Earth Flight Simulator). On September 1, 2015, support for the Google Earth plugin expired, which almost resulted in the complete closing of GEFS-Online. In January 2016, in connection with the termination of the Google Earth plugin, GEFS-Online migrated to CesiumJS, an open source virtual virtual platform. In 2017, the simulator name was changed to GeoFS, due to changes in the cyberspace program. In 2018, GeoFS releases a "HD" version of the simulator, which costs EUR9.99 per year, which uses Microsoft Bing sub-meter images and is ad-free. GeoFS provides a one-day free trial for HD versions when users log in. Unpaid non-HD version uses Sentinel-2 10-60 satellite images from Cesium, and contains ads.
Some virtual airlines, alliances, and roleplay groups use GeoFS as their main flight simulator. Most have Discord servers as their primary form of communication. The official GeoFS Discord server exists and has since gained over 2,500 members.
