Moto G is an Android smart phone developed and manufactured by Motorola Mobility. Released on 13 November 2013, the phone was originally intended for emerging markets, although it is also available in developed markets as a low price option.

After six months in the market, Moto G became Motorola's best-selling smart phone, and is the best selling phone in Mexico and Brazil.

Moto G was replaced by second generation Moto G in September 2014, Moto G (3rd generation) in July 2015, Moto G4 on June 28, 2016, Moto G5 in March 2017 and Moto G6 in April 2018.

Specifications

The phone has a 4.5 inch LCD IPS screen and quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor at 1.2 GHz, paired with an Adreno 305 GPU running at a clock speed of 450 MHz. The original operating system is Android 4.3 "Jelly Bean", with later updates to 5.1 "Lollipop".

This phone is closely related to the Moto X that was released three months earlier, although there are some major differences although the appearance is similar. Moto G can not have active notifications, quick retrieval and touchless controls like Moto X because Moto X uses a special processor that will be expensive for Moto G. Additionally, Moto G has a removable back cover so users can customize the phone, not in parts back of Moto X which is held with adhesive.

The original Moto G did not support LTE, due to the lack of adoption standards in emerging markets. On May 13, 2014, Motorola launched the latest variant of the phone, Moto G LTE, which adds LTE support, gyroscopes, and MicroSD card slot compatible with cards up to 32 GB. In January 2015, Android Lollipop 5.0.2 update OTA was launched and in September 2015, version 5.1 was launched in India. In March 2015, Motorola slowly increased the handset. Motorola began releasing the 5.1 update for Google Play Edition on April 2, 2015. In the UK, update 5.1 begins on June 12, 2015.
