Google Panda is a change to Google's search results ranking algorithm first released in February 2011. This change aims to downgrade "low quality sites" or "thin sites", especially "content" farms, and returns a high quality site near the top of the search results.

CNET reported a surge in the ranking of news websites and social networking sites, and a downgrade for sites containing a large number of ads. These changes reportedly affect the ranking of nearly 12 percent of all search results. Immediately after the Panda launch, many websites, including Google webmaster forums, became filled with complaints about scrapers/copyright infringers who got better ratings than sites with original content. At one point, Google publicly asked for data points to help detect the scrapers better. In 2016, Matt Cutts, head of Google webspam at the time of the Panda update, commented that "with Panda, Google is making substantial big profits through multiple partners that Google actually needs to reveal Pandas as a material impact on revenue calls, but I believe it's a decision right to launch Panda, both for the long-term trust of our users and for a better ecosystem for publishers. "

The Google Panda received several updates after the original launch in February 2011, and the effect became global in April 2011. To help affected publishers, Google advises on his blog, thus providing some direction for self-evaluation of website quality. Google has listed a list of 23 bullet points on his blog that answers the question "What is considered a high quality site?" which should help webmasters "get into Google's mindset".

The name "Panda" comes from Google engineer Navneet Panda, who developed a technology that allows Google to create and implement algorithms.

Faktor peringkat

The Google Panda patent (patent 8,682,892), filed on September 28, 2012, was granted on March 25, 2014. The patent states that Google Panda renders a ratio with site sign-in links and reference queries, a search query for the site's brand. The ratio is then used to make modification factors across the site. Factor modifications across sites are then used to make modification factors for pages based on search queries. If the page fails to meet a certain threshold, the modification factor is applied and, therefore, the page will rank lower on the search engine result page.

Google Panda affects the ranking of entire sites or specific sections, not just individual pages on the site.

Update

During the first two years, the Google Panda update was launched about once a month, but Google declared in March 2013 that future updates will be integrated into the algorithm and will therefore be less visible and sustainable.

Google released the "slow launch" of Panda 4.2 starting on July 18, 2015.
