Some locations on the free, publicly viewable satellite map service have missing, incomplete, or obscure map data . In some cases, the area is intentionally obscured or blurred digitally. Westchester County, New York, for example, has asked Google to obscure potential terrorism targets (such as amusement parks, beaches and parking lots) from its satellite imagery.
In some cases, censorship of certain sites has been deleted. When Google Maps launches, the images of the White House and the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. not clear; versions of Google Maps and Google Earth currently display these sites uncensored, but with expired imagery.

During talks with the Indian government, Google issued a statement saying "Google has spoken and will continue to talk to the Indian government about any security issues that may be related to Google Earth." Google agrees to blur the images at the request of the Indian government.
The Australian government has decided that a sensitive region image is not a risk, because of the poor level of detail. It was reported that ahead of the APEC forum in Sydney held in September 2007, several major locations in the image of the downtown business district, where APEC leaders meet, may have been deliberately reduced in resolution; however, Google has indicated that the change is not related to APEC, while NSW police say they do not know about the changes in Google images. It is well known that the images of Australian Prison Her Majesty are deliberately obscured. Picture of the prime minister's official residence, The Lodge has not escaped. However, the roof image has been and the entrance to The Lodge fled in Google Street View.
The Malaysian government has stated that they will not ask Google to censor sensitive areas because it will identify locations that are considered sensitive.
