Features
Google Flights innovation is allowing open search based on criteria other than destination; for example, users can search for flights within the timeframe and budget and are offered various destination options. Alternatively, the user can choose a destination, and Google Flight will calculate each price for each day in the next 12 months, visualized in a graph or table. This allows users to easily see the cheapest dates to fly to destinations.
Response
This service is directly compared to competitors like Expedia, Orbitz, Kayak.com, and Bing. Competitors Kayak.com issued a statement that their service is superior to Google and they will be competitive.
There are no direct changes in the stock price for Priceline, Expedia or Travelzoo in response to the opening of Google Flights.
Shortly after the site was released, Expedia testified to the Senate Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee that Google failed to keep its promise to rank Google Flight listings under a competitor list in Google search.
