Interoperation
Google Contacts may be synced with mobile devices and operating systems (eg, Android, Symbian, iOS, BlackBerry, Palm, Pocket PC or Windows Phone) or with PC applications (eg, Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird) through third-party software, and Google Sync Google app itself. In addition, any system that can be synced through Microsoft ActiveSync can be synced with Google Contacts. There is also support for mobile devices that support the Microsoft®® Exchange ActiveSyncÃ,î protocol and/or the SyncML standard. There's built-in support for Google Contacts in Google's Google Android open-source mobile operating system. Google Contacts can also be synced by CardDAV.
Import/Export
Google Contacts can be exploited by users in particular, using one of the three CSV (Comma-separated values) file methods listed below:
1) Google CSV format (to import into Google account).
2) Outlook CSV format (for importing into Outlook or other apps).
3) vCard format (for importing to Apple Address Book or other application).
Users can choose to Import/Export to a file, located outside of the "Interoperation" mode listed above, by selecting the "More" menu item on most of the Google Services web pages that display Contact List. The user can then choose to use the file as a hard backup, or edit this file in a text editor, database, or spreadsheet for external or temporary use. This data can then be imported back into the Interoperation Service with the same dynamics applied: with logistics like "duplicate" at the time point of synchronization.
Criticism
With the introduction of higher-density screens and greater internal memory to Android devices, the Google Contacts system is criticized for supporting only low resolution photos, with a limited size of 96x96 pixels. This issue has been fixed on October 10, 2012 on devices with 'Jelly Bean' up to a higher 720x720 pixel limit.
Starting January 22, 2017, G Suite users are still unable to use high-resolution contact photos, except for what's called a new version of Google Contacts already enabled in their account.
