Vergelijk.nl (Compare Groups) is a privately owned company that has four price comparison services in three countries and was established in the Netherlands in 1999.

History
Vergelijk.nl was founded in 1999 by Ben Kerkhof, Jean Paul Soethout and Tjibbe de Jong and is the first price comparison site in the Netherlands. In 2000, one of the founders of Vergelijk.nl, Ben Kerkhof, started Vertaa.fi, a price comparison website based in Finland. The business expanded into Belgium in 2002 with the commencement of Vergelijk.be and in 2006 Vergelijk.nl acquired the Dutch competitor Elcheapo.nl.
Beginning 2015 Vergelijk.nl launched a local and omni-channel price comparison service in which not only products and offers from webshop were compared but also from traditional brick and mortar traders.
Compare Groups was established shortly after the acquisition of Elcheapo.nl in 2006, to centralize the management of different labels. Since the founding of the Compare Group, the business expanded further into French and Belgian-speaking French with the foundations of Comparer.fr and Comparer.be in 2009.
Although Compare Groups provides some insight into the number of monthly visitors, it does not publish the right number of visitors. It is known that in 2004 Vergelijk.nl welcomed 20 million visitors since its inception in 1999 and passed 40 million visitors in 2006.
In September 2017 Vergelijk.nl and Vergelijk.be where the first CSS in Europe were allowed to participate in Google Shopping PLA after Google was fined with anti-trust penalties worth 2.4 billion euros.
In March 2018 Vergelijk.nl and Vergelijk.be were the first CSS places in the Netherlands and Belgium to display Amazon's results on its website.
Stopped project
- Comparestreet.co.uk, a UK-based price comparison website. This website was established in 2002 and discontinued in 2006.
- Adultcompare.nl, a website that aims to compare the price of erotic and mature products established in 2002. It was discontinued as a separate project in 2004 when it was integrated in Vergelijk.nl.
- Superdagdeal.nl, a website established in 2010. Superdagdeal.nl focuses on offering a special deal that lasts 24 hours. This website was sold in 2011 to GoldenExperience.
- Check Magazine, print magazine by BesteProduct.nl, Vergelijk.nl, Independer.nl and Zoover, were introduced in 2008 and write primarily about the trends and development of online shopping. Check magazine stopped after three problems due to lack of customers and advertising revenue.
- July 2014: Vergelijk.nl shopping cart: Vergelijk.nl takes over the halting market due to lack of interest and usage by both traders and visitors;
- January 2015: Beginning 2015 Vergelijk.nl decides to strengthen the Vergelijk.nl brand name in the Dutch market. The brand ElCheapo.nl is incompatible with this so that a decision is taken to discontinue this website;
- May 2017: Terminated Comparer.fr
Acquisitions
- 2003: Arbalet - Competitor comparison Belgian Arbalet was acquired in 2003. Its activities are included and continued at Vergelijk.be. The arbalet no longer exists as a separate entity.
- 2004: Consumerdesk.nl - Consumerdesk.nl was acquired along with other assets of the Cedron bankrupt company.
- 2006: Elcheapo.nl - The competitive price comparison site Elcheapo.nl was obtained from De Telegraaf in 2006. No details of the acquisition have been disclosed.

Business model
Vergelijk.nl's business model consists of three main revenue drivers:
- The lead generation for a web store uses a cost-per-click model.
- Monthly subscription fee for bricks & amp; traditional; mortar traders.
- The cost per sale model that provides Vergelijk.nl a percentage of the order value for each order placed on the Vergelijk.nl website. Although Vergelijk.nl accepts orders, actual order processing is done by the web store. The web store receives the order value minus the Vergelijk.nl compensation.
- In 2014, Vergelijk.nl decides to stop the market model/cost per sale.

Awards
- 2011: Comparer.fr was selected on the top 10 favorite French comparison sites.
- 2012: Vergelijk.nl wins the High Growth Award in his region.
- 2013: Vergelijk.nl was nominated for the Best Comparison Website Award at the Dutch Thuiswinkel Awards.
