Ben Silbermann (born 1982) is an American Internet entrepreneur who is one of Pinterest's founders and CEOs, a virtual pinboard that allows users to organize images, links, recipes, and other things. Users can search for other pins for inspiration, 'redep' images to their own collections and/or 'likes' photos.

Life and career

Silbermann grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. Her parents, Jane Wang and Neil Silbermann, are ophthalmologists with family practice still based in her hometown. He married Divya Bhaskaran, with whom he had a son, Max. In 1998, Silbermann attended the Research Science Institute at MIT. Furthermore, gifted students graduated from Des Moines Central Academy and Des Moines Roosevelt with a class of 1999. He then graduated from Yale College in the spring of 2003 with a degree in political science.

Prior to Pinterest (launched in March 2010), Silbermann works on Google in an online ad group. However, after a short time with the company he went and started designing his own iPhone app with his college buddy, Paul Sciarra. After their initial application, Tote, failed to gain significant appeal, the founders teamed up with Evan Sharp to create a pinboard product that would later be named Pinterest. Silbermann says that Pinterest's origins really come from his love of collecting as a child. "Collecting tells a lot about who you are," he says, and when they see the web "there's no place to share the side of who you are."
